Do BMW Badge Overlays Affect Your MOT?

What Makes a Good Quality BMW Badge Overlay?

Material — cast vs calendered vinyl: cast vinyl is the material class automotive wrappers use, because it is made to conform to curved surfaces. SuperWrappz uses premium 3M cast vinyl.

Precision cutting: a good overlay is machine-cut to the measured geometry of your badge rather than to a rough circle. SuperWrappz kits are cut to the quadrant, in Birmingham, per chassis.

The sizing method: ask any seller how they size a kit. The answer should be a quadrant radius — centre of the badge outward to the edge of the coloured field, stopping before the silver divider lines. If the answer is 82mm or 74mm, those are outer roundel diameters and they are not a fitment measurement.

V1 or V2 — Getting the Right Fit

Your chassis code decides it, not the year on the V5C. V1 is cut for the E and F series. V2 is cut for the G and U series, plus the F40 1 Series.

The year misleads in both directions. Seventeen V1 chassis were still being built well past 2017 — an X2 F39 registered in 2023 takes V1, and plenty of F30 and F10 cars were registered in 2016 and 2017 and are V1. In the other direction, the G11 7 Series arrived in 2015 and the G30 5 Series in 2016, and both take V2.
